Share 2008

Today through Saturday I will be working at WBNH's Share-a-thon event.

It is the 3 days out of the year that we put aside to raise money on-air.

We interrupt regular programming from 6:30am till 6pm today and Friday, and 7am till 5pm on Saturday.

We have local pastors and ministry leaders come in for an hour to talk about their ministries on-air.

We also like to play lots of music on-air as well.

My role for the 3 days is to be one of the three people that can run the mixing console that controls what goes on the air. That person is responsible for making sure that levels are good and that music is started at the right times.

We usually run the board in 2 to 3 hour shifts.

I also help around lunchtime by going to get lunch for the staff and volunteers.

It is lots of work but it is really a fun 3 days.

You can listen to us at the 88.5 FM frequency or listen online at www.wbnh.org. We also have a webcam online so you can see what is going on in the studio.

Our budget for 2008 is a little over 411,000 dollars. We are trusting God that we will be able to raise that money during the 3 days that we are on-air. That has not happened for a few years. We have always raised enough money, just not while we are on-air. The last few years it has been later in the year.

Trip to Florida

I am writing tonight from Naples, Florida. I am down here with my family visiting my Grandparent's. We flew down from Chicago's Midway Airport on Southwest.

We left home this morning at 7:30 this morning to make our 12:10pm flight. We made it to the airport around 10:40am and got checked in fine and got through security just fine. We ate some lunch at McDonald's and the got on our flight.

When flying on Southwest there are no seat assignments. Since we were a family traveling together we were able to get on early. I sat by myself near the front and the rest of the family sat farther back. The reason I didn't sit with them is I prefer to sit near the front and wanted a break from them!

It was a nice smooth flight. There was a couple of turbulence bumps during the flight but that's about it. There was a little turbulence when we were descending because we were going down through some clouds.

We landed great and then we had to go pick up our bags and then we called my Grandfather who was waiting for us in the parking lot and he came by and picked us up.

It normally is a 45 minute drive from the airport to their place but we ran into some traffic and it took around a hour.

My Grandmother was waiting for us when we got here. She had a nice meal waiting for us when we came in. It was kind of a Thanksgiving meal cause we weren't able to celebrate with them last week.

After supper we watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. After that we turned over to the CNN/You-Tube Republican Debate. We watched that for awhile and then the younger kids went to bed so since they sleep in the living room we turned it off.

Now I am outside watching the debate online and surfing the net.

We don't have any plans yet for our trip down here. We enjoy visiting with my Grandparents, and they have a pool where they live so we enjoy that. We will go to the beach of course, and we will do some shopping.

Cubs, Colts, WBNH

The Cubs are in the playoffs but they aren't playing like a team that should be in. They have really struggled vs. the Arizona D'Backs. In my opinion the reason that they have struggled is because their top hitters have not done anything at the plate. All of their hitting besides a few singles has come from backup players or pinch hitters. I can't believe that after the Cubs hit the cover off the ball in September how they have really struggled vs. Arizona. Now the Cubs have to win the next 3 games to advance and that has happened only 5 times in the last 12 years.

The Colts have started out the season 4-0. They haven't played played any really good teams but in a month or so they have a few games in a row that will be tough. The Colts have a few injured players but it hasn't really hurt them so far. Again this year it is looking like the November 4th game vs. the Patriots is going to be the big game of the year.

My job at WBNH has gone well this summer. They have hired another full time person but it won't really affect me that much in regards to my workload. She will be in other areas that we have wanted to develop.

Muffler fixed

We got the muffler/pipe fixed on my car last week. We had to replace everything from the cadillac converter back. That is 2 sections of pipe and the muffler. I ordered the parts early last week and then we went and picked them up on Thursday. We worked on it for a couple hours on Thursday night but we needed more parts so I picked them up on Friday and then on Friday night we finished it.

Dad did pretty much most of the work. I am not much of a mechanic but I was able to help where I could. We have a nice automotive shop here at Victory Acres. We have a car lift also so that helps a lot when you have to work under the car.

My car is MUCH quieter now. Before the pipe/muffler was rusted out so there was not much of anything to quiet it down. Now it sounds great and I guess it helps with gas mileage. I filled up my car yesterday and it gets 34 miles a gallon! That is about what I expected. Hopefully that goes up now that the muffler is fixed. I guess the muffler puts some pressure on the exhaust coming out of the engine so that's how it helps with the gas mileage.

Trip to Maine, Trip in the Fall, Cubs

We went on a vacation to Caribou, Maine at the beginning of July. We visited friends and family. I had never seen one of my cousins before. He is 15 months old and we had not been since he was born.

We stayed with my Grandparents. They have a nice house in town. There was 12 of us in the house. My Aunt and her 2 kids were there the first couple of days. Her husband (my uncle) who is a pilot was not able to come up. They live 3 hours south of Caribou and he was flying. We were able to see him for an hour or so down at his place in Bangor when we were on our way home.

Before we left I looked at tickets for the Red Sox in Boston. We were going to be staying near Boston for a couple days and it would be pretty cool to go to a game at Fenway Park. A couple days before we left Caribou Dad was looking at tickets and we got some on eBay. They were kinda expencive but for a sold out game we were lucky to get them.

We bought 3 tickets. Myself and Dad were going to go but we were not sure who would be going with the third ticket. The people that we stayed with are not really baseball fans but we coaxed the guy who we stayed with to go with us. We were going to drive a little and then take the subway but since he went with us we drove. We ran into traffic. It was after rush hour so the guy didn't know why there was so much traffic. We got near the park about 10 minutes before the game and he stopped and let us get out and he went and parked. We were in our seats a couple minutes before the game started. We were in the outfield, Right center.

The game was back and forth throughout but the Blue Jay's finaly took the lead and they won. I didn't really care who won. I was there to enjoy the experience mostly and I love to watch baseball.

We got home on July 15. We were gone for 11 days. It was a good vacation.

Today Dad bought airline tickets for us to go to Florida in late November. He got a really good deal on them. We will be flying on Southwest out of Midway in Chicago. We will be visiting my Grandparents in Naples for 7 days.

The Cubs won again tonight! They beat the Cardinals for the second straight game. Over the last month or so they have one of the best records of any team is baseball. They didn't play all that great the first couple of months but they have really turned it on the last month or so. We will have to wait and see how they play the last 2 months of the season.
